My pre-ordered 150-450mm DFA AW arrived yesterday – big thanks to everyone at SRS.
As is usually the case the weather decided to take a turn for the worse so haven’t had a chance to do much testing yet.
With the K5II-s the enhanced AF functions on the lens don’t work (maybe a Firmware upgrade could fix that.) but everything else is fine. The lens is a bit of a beast and seems to dwarf my DA* 300mm – in fact the lens on its own appears to weigh more than the K5 + 300mm.
But handheld shooting is possible – even with the poor light. As an experiment I gave it a try with the Pentax DA 1.4X AW Rear Converter and it focuses surprisingly even in such poor light.
The photo was taken at 450x1.4 (630mm) f8 1/640s ISO 6400.

Only processing was resizing for the web.

As far as one can tell from a resized image, it looks pretty good. No, I'm not going green... honest!
Enjoy the lens and I look forward to seeing more results.

It is an illusion that photos are made with the camera… they are made with the eye, heart and head. Henri Cartier-Bresson
Lots of film bodies, a couple of digital ones, too many lenses (mainly older glass) and a Horseman LE 5x4.

If it looks that good on a cropped sensor; imagine full-frame in about six months

Someone should try it on film in the meantime.

A canon and a Pentax at the same show in a face off, 250-600 on the Pentax would win the penis envy race!
