Pentax firmware upgrade

Posted 13/06/2023 - 11:19 Link
I love this new Pentax firmware upgrade for the K-3iii to improve the fast focus.
It made a heron appear and suddenly take off. It was the first time I have been able to see one at close range and get reasonable photos. It still needs some work as the sequence was great BUT the heron flew away from me. Maybe the next version could make the wildlife come towards us - rather than going away from us?

I wonder if Sony, Nikon, Canon, Fuji, OM etc have a feature that makes the wildlife come towards you, rather than away from you????

Pentax K-3iii with 55-300 plm lens at full stretch (and then cropped a tiny bit) 1/1000th sec f7.1 ISO 400

Perhaps holding a pole in one hand above your head with a fish attached whilst operating the camera with the other hand might work Nice shot though

You mean to say that some enterprising Chinese company hasn't produced a fishing rod with hot-shoe attachment???

I wondered which type of fish would be best for this experiment and after a great deal of pond ering, decided on a Perch. Does anyone have any better suggestions?

Try positioning yourself at the other end of the Heron next time so that it takes off towards you

Seriously though, birds, especially larger birds, prefer to take off into the wind to enable them more lift for less effort. If possible, try to position yourself upwind of your target to give yourself an edge.

If I did that it would fall off its perch. Or would the perch fall off the pole? Or would the Chinese hot shoe hold it on? This is becoming very confusing.

Hi all,

It says on the Pentax firmware page for the K-3 Mark III firmware version V2.00 the following...

Added Type 3 to the item of the AF.C tracking AF point method.
Added focus sensitivity setting item for AF.C.

What does the first item mean and where is the AF.C focus sensitivity setting, I've looked through the various menus and I cannot seem to see it, unless I've missed it.

Regards, Chris.
