One of the best affordable telephoto zoom lenses you can put on the front of a Pentax DSLR IMO.

I still find it odd how the first Pentax AF lenses (disregarding the earlier 35-70mm which only works with the ME-F - although it has decent reviews as a lens from what I've read) seem to be considered the finest. One wonders why Pentax bothered investing in replacing them rather than just fine-tuning the designs!

Just make sure that you're getting the SMC version, as they also did a Pentax-F 70-200mm without it (and Takumar-F badged 70-200mm and 70-210mm without it).

Some of the modern zooms are no doubt a little better, but the SMC-F 70-210 is still a very competitive lens. Especially at the price.

I had one of these for a while and compared it to my 50-200.

I found the 50-200 to have higher contrast, but the 70-210 to be slightly sharper.

Eventually I came to the conclusion that the difference was not as significant as the difference in size between the two lenses, so I kept the 50-200 which is smaller.

For me it came down to a choice between 135 format coverage and an aperture ring and portability. Since I have an FA 80-320 for when size doesn't matter too much, I went for the more portable 50-200.
you don't have to be mad to post here

but it does help
