Hello all

Hopefully some one can help me with these 2 lenses I have aquired.
Both are described as "PENTAX-F ZOOM 1:3.5-4.5 28-80mm". What's the history behind these and which one would you keep (if any) and why.

Hi Brian

They aren't quite the same. The top one is the SMC Pentax-F, which is super-multi-coated. The bottom one is a standard coated Pentax-F, which would have been offered at a lower price. It may also have a simpler construction, but I don't have any information on that.

The SMC version will give better contrast, better colour saturation and lower levels of flare and is the more desireable of the two lenses. It is the most expensive of the 28-80mm options from that particular vintage of Pentax autofocus lenses!
Best regards, John

Hi John

Can't believe I missed the SMC bit, but many thanks for the info.
Anybody want a 28-80 before it goes on eBay.
Cheers
Brian.
