I have no real idea of the price for an A* 300, but my Tamron F2.8 300mm cost me £350 without a mount, I would expect a genuine Pentax and a * lens at that to cost a LOT more.
you don't have to be mad to post here

but it does help

Personally, I'd keep the A* 300mm 1:2.8 lens unless you really need the money. It has no equal in the range of modern Pentax glass.

I know what you mean Peter but I really ca'nt see much sense in it sitting in my equipment cupboard gathering dust when someone somewhere is looking for one. I know how much of a problem I had locating it in '96 when I needed one. It really ought to be giving someone big dollops of pleasure.

Just a quick comment to say I had the Pentax F* 300mm off Richard and it arrived exactly as described .. my first * lens and I can now see why people say such good things about them

Really nice guy to talk with as well.

Mike.

Oh, so the F* sold.
Is it possible to know for what price, or is it a private matter between the buyer and the seller (not sure what the forum customs are)?
Thanks

I paid just over £400.00 for mine a few years ago.

Thanks for the nice comment Mike. I hope you have many years of pleasure from it. Maybe post a few images from it at some point ? One thing I will say is the more you use a bit of kit like that, the better you will become with it. The best is still to come believe me !!Regarding the A*300 f2.8 I am considering putting it up for sensible offer just to get opinions as to its worth and affordability. I have had quite a bit of interest in it but its still available. If anyone would like pictures of it just send me a P M. Richard S

I just cannot get over how small the lens is, especially compared to the Pentax-K 300mm f4 that I have ... (and will be putting on here soon).
