I just tried it with mine and no i couldn't use AF.
Even in Manual focus i couldn't get a focus confirmation But i was using it hand held,so maybe a tripod would help as it was moving around a bit as you would expect.

Its SDM isn't it?
The only decent converter that will work is the Tamron 1.4X MC4

Yes the new Pentax converter is SDM but there is no news yet as to its arrival date.

But I will wait for it, as it should be the ideal match for the DA* 300.

It wouldn't suprise me in the slightest if the Pentax one is just the Tamron in new clothes.
From the pics I have seen they look very similar, although a lot of converters do

I have just aquired a Pentax F* 300mm f4.5 and my Sigma 2X DG EX converter doesn't autofocus on that either.

The Tamron 1.4X works fine though.

I assume as i can't find a new one the Tamaron 1.4x is no longer made. I also assume, as Clarky has it on his wish list, the Pentax version is not available either. How long have you been waiting for it?

From memory it was announced at the start of 2008 - a blink of the eye in Pentax launch terms! Probably another year to go before it's actually in the shops...
