Mine's exactly the same!
The clamp function simply locks the lens position when you are focussing manually, ie when using a copy stand.

All is well and the lens is operating as it is designed to.
It's actually a nice lens to have, rather more compact than my built-like-a-tank FA version!

It works like it used to, the clamp is simply to stiffen the focus so that the focus point stays the same but that you can still adjust it with some force so it doesn't lock completely.
When doing macro I find it handy to use manual focus and sometimes AF ro bring it near the point.
If you take away AF from the shutter release button you need to press the AF button on the back to auto focus and all the other time it use manual focus since it has quick-shift.
That's one of the reasons I bought it over the others.

Yes, the Quick Shift is a brilliant idea. It took me a while to realise it, but now when I use older lenses I miss it.

Thanks for the reassurance. I thought that the word 'clamp' would lock the focus.
I shall now get out and give it a good workout with confidence!

It locks it to the extent that if you're doing copystand work you can apply the clamp and know that the focus won't "creep" under the weight of the front element, however, the force used is more like the brakes on a bike - enough to stop the wheel spinning but in a progressive fashion (you wouldn't want an instant stop or you'd fly over the handlebars). Thanks for the reassurance. Not sure if that's a good analogy or not but I know what I meant

Thank you all for the help.
I have had a chance to have a good play with it now and I'm really pleased with the results so far. Put a couple of shots in the gallery yesterday.

Just got a 100mm macro and I'm not sure if all is well.
When the lens is manually focused to the stop, the focus collar seems to continue to revolve. Is this normal.
When I tried the clamp, the camera switches to manual focus ok but the focus collar still changes the focus. Is this how it is supposed to work?
I thought it was faulty and took it back. I tried a second lense but that operated exactly the same just the same. Decided I needed some expert help so came to the forum!
