Pentax CSC Rumours

From a price bracket point of view then, what of the K-r? Seems they might either drop the latter if this new idea proceeds, or risk them competing with each other, albeit from adjacent niches.
The burning question might be then about the future of DSLRs.

I think the first question will be how many CSCs do they sell, if indeed the story is right.
The future of the K-r will simply depend upon whether it continues to sell or not.
The market will ultimately decide.

I for one wouldn't want my KR (slightly bigger than my previous KX) to be smaller than it is ergonomically. It's already tiny compared to many DSLR's and Pentax lenses make Canikon ones look very fat and bloated.
I considered Panasonics when looking for kit cameras two years ago. I was put off by the very flimsy plasticky controls rather than the form factor. Most such cameras look unbalanced with telephoto lenses on (Sony especially) and have you seen how much the big lenses cost?
I think the Sony (Minolta of old) route of a translucent mirror the possible next step for any DSLR's from Pentax. I seriously doubt they will stop making cameras like the KR and K5 any time soon unless as John says sales affect decisions down the line.

I hope the digital "auto 110" is a huge seller, though I'll pass on it.
I am going to buy the new aps-c evil if it has advanced video abilities and kmount...

It won't be a k-mount or else they can't make the camera smaller than what they are now so they would be unable to compete.I am going to buy the new aps-c evil if it has advanced video abilities and kmount...
It would be interesting to see if Pentax would go into the micro 4/3th pack...

I'm thinking along these lines Stephan...Don wrote:

IF I were to engineer this camera, I'd keep the kmount, and go with a different shape, there is a past pentax video camera that I'd look at for inspiration:

kmount on front, flip out lcd on back or side...
now that is me, pentax could still keep the kmount and make a tiny mirrorless class camera that is thicker than the competition, but when bundled with pentax pancake lenses would still ring in smaller than anything Sony, and most everything else... if people want tiny, Pentax appears to be offerring a seperate small sensor system to that market segment, so thier evil class cam needn't be an industry record holder for small size..

Hmm, I should probably complete my set of Auto 110 lenses just in case. If they use the same mount (not beyond the bounds of possibility, given this is Pentax!) I could see Auto 110 gear becoming even more expensive...
Seriously, I'm slightly amazed by A110 prices. I paid £20 for a tidy camera with 24mm lens and the smaller of the two flashguns (which came with its original case). I frequently see lenses alone priced higher than that. AFAIK you can't still buy or process 110 film, so why are prices high?

Perhaps peeps are stockpiling ready for a possible 110 mount coming back.Hmm, I should probably complete my set of Auto 110 lenses just in case. If they use the same mount (not beyond the bounds of possibility, given this is Pentax!) I could see Auto 110 gear becoming even more expensive...
