Pentax convert?

I've just come back from Dixons (no relation to UK Dixons), where I printed out a load of photos for a course I'm following. They are all jpgs that haven't been through PSE or anything, so straight from the camera.
Because I'm a technophobe I asked the salesman for help with the Kodak machine.
When the first photos rolled out of it he asked me what camera I have. A Pentax *ist Ds I replied. He then said that he had never managed such good colours with his Canon dslr. Then came the photos my OH took with his little Canon - ah said the guy those are Canon colours!

He bought his Canon because he got a discount from Dixons, but now he is thinking of upgrading it he is going to look at the K10D when it is available
