Pentax confusion

No idea yet - it will all depend on the final "street price" and that takes a short while to bed in.
The K7 is now settling at under £1000, very competitive with the Nikon D300s.
"Recommended retail" prices are always a bit unrealistic.

for somebody wishing to buy in to Pentax, they just are much more expensive than other brands-big shame.
Surely though John, if you had £600 in your pocket would you buy the KX or K20,2 completely different cameras competing in the same price point it doesn't make sense to me

Well the K20D seems to be at the end of its run, so the chance won't be there for much longer.
There's no answer to the question though, because it's too soon to know where the K-x will end up in the scheme of things.
It doesn't really stress me to be honest as when I look at the next upgrade it will probably be the K7 when it gets to the end of its life cycle.

I guess I don't like change.-hmm
If it aint broke why fix it,progress eh.Why stop making a successful product like the K20 and KM?
Toyota stopped making the Corrolla, one of the most popular cars ever produced-must be the human condition.
Goodnight all

I don't know about the K20 but rumour has it the K-m has been stopped because Sony have stopped making the 10.2MP sensor it used. A bit like when they introduced the K200D because Sony had finally stopped production of the 6MP sensor that had been used from the *istD all the way through to the K100D Super.I guess I don't like change.-hmm

Pentax are rather at the mercy of their suppliers in certain areas unfortunately.

I think a lot of the problem is that the new cameras have come out just after a round of very heavy price rises. If you look at the K-m when it was released the price was around £400 and then we had the rise which bumped everything by around 50% and higher.
Therefore if you take that into consideration the K-x is priced as the K-m replacement.

Compare the K-x projected price with the equivalent competition.
Then compare specs.
Then consider who these cameras are aimed at.
I feel that in comparison with the competition the K-x stands up well, and will have a much better build quality.
I just hope the target users can actually get hold of them!

I agree with that, but as long as the press 'need' a bracket to put cameras in that's what it'll be called.I don't think the K-x can really be described as entry level anyway, the specifications are definately a notch above.
If Pentax could produce a version which was lighter on features and £100 cheaper the K-x would be called an amateur's camera.
As it is.
The specs on the K-x put it ahead of the EOS1000 and D300, which it will be compared with. Let's see what the press make of it when it's available.

Just read in AP that the KX will be £600. Surely that cant be a KM replacement, we know the K20,K200 and KM are history, looks like the KX is replacing the K20. £600 for an entry level camera??
You either spend £600 or £1200-nuts!!
enlighten me please
I have an open mind on this.
