I find tha hard to believe.
I read recently that the old K1000 sold between 3 and 4 million alone (and it might have just been the USA). What about the Spotmatic - how many of those? The ME and variants ...

Weren't Pentax the first to reach X Million? They used
it in their adverts.
Looking on the good side..... they can't lose that many

Ah yes the Philippines, my mom's home town. One of the reasons I chose Pentax was because of the Digital Photographer Philippines Pentax Forum members being really friendly and answering all my questions... I would have otherwise ended up with a Nikon D80 back then!

My Dad has a 10 Million strap, he has had it as long as I can remember.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pentax_LX Says that they had hit 10 million SLRs in 1981. Given the popularity of SLRs at that time and the massive increases in SLR photography during the 80s and 90s plus all of the compact - it is almost certain that they are well past 20 million cameras by now.
