Pentax auto 110

I see from another post that it is possible to buy 110 film again. Does this mean that a pentax auto 110 is a good fun camera again.

Who has one- what do you think that its best points are? What lenses and accessories are worth considering in a purchase?

I got one a while back and although film 'can' be found you'll have to develop it yourself...
Not an issue for me as the Auto-110 I bought was riddled with fungus and was quickly binned...

I personally cannot understand why anyone would want a 110 camera. The image quality of 110 was useless and with so many decent compact digitals around (see Galoot's post about Pentax Optio i10 for £34.95), what is the point? Why is it more fun?

110 film is processed by various labs, but The Darkroom Ltd can be relied upon to produce excellent results.

The pentax Auto 110 was greeted with enthusiasm because it's a gem of a camera and the whole kit is adorably compact. Results will not be as good as 35mm film, but as the centre only of an enlarger's field was used, the quality was very even from edge to edge.

It is possible to take brilliant photos with an Auto 110.

It's interesting that it was greeted so enthusiastically, whereas these days there seems to be much more grumbling about every model that might be a bit different.

I bought the three lens kit packed in its original box with winder, flash, filters etc. recently from 'that auction site.' All near mint and less than £50. It's truly a design classic and having film available again is a big bonus.

Well largely I guess yes as most 110 cameras were nothing more than toys. The Pentax camera is in a different league to most other 110 cameras and even has a good TTL viewfinder like its bigger contemporary brothers, unlike the Q. The Pentax lenses made for the camera are as good as any other Pentax lenses and produce great image quality as can be experienced by using them on a Q with an adapter.

Sorry to read above that someone bought a fungus afflicted one - I think I'd have sent it back.

I picked up a complete set: body, winder, flash, three lenses, filters, close up lenses, hoods in a Pentax aluminium outfit case for £70. It is so mint that many of the parts including the camera and flash cases are still in sealed poly bags.

For sheer picture taking enjoyment it beats the pants off using a digital compact. It is all so beautifully made but I suspect there will be a lot of dogs out there.

I'm still trying to pick up the three lenses I don't have: the pan focus, the zoom and the 70mm.

I narrowly missed the 2x tc made by soligor (I think) on eBay

The appeal was the tiny size, which made it truly a pocketable camera, and the fact that the camera and lenses were of high quality. As a result, the picture quality was much higher than that of other 110 cameras.

I love mine. I also had a Minox at one time, but although it was a superb piece of engineering, the frame size was just too small to produce reasonable pictures.

It would be great if Pentax would reintroduce the camera with a digital sensor, but I don't imagine it will happen.

They already have and it's called the Pentax Q.

Hardly, but I suppose the Q does represent a sort of homage to the 110. If it took 110 lenses, that would really be something.

I seem to think that I have seen adapters to allow the use of 110 lenses on the Q. Try eBay. There are certainly adapters to use C mount and many other lenses, many of them being excellent optics and very low prices.

It most certainly can accept 110 lense with an albeitly odd looking adapter, when the coop starts selling them I'll be first in line.

Interesting responses.....

I have read that the lomo 110 film has to have a tag cut off so that the camera reads the the ISO correctly. Is this correct?

Is there only Lomo film and is it only available as B&W 100 ISO and 200 colour?

John The darkroom ltd do not advertise processing and printing 110 film, is it a special job for them?

Dave they sorted it out for me quite recently without any problem. I phoned them for prices and so on, so that looks like the way to proceed.

Extraordinary. I apologise for saying "hardly". BTW, the price of them isn't totally ridiculous.
