(7741.T: Quote, Profile, Research that the company is prepared to accept Hoya's tender offer with conditions, a person familiar with the matter said. Hoya's tender offer bid, first reported in April, triggered a split on Pentax's board. The board eventually dumped company president Fumio Urano, who had led the talks with Hoya, and appointed Takashi Watanuki, who had opposed a merger.

According to another forum no other bidders may make an offer before 31st May.
Hoya are really only after the medical side of things, so who knows what will happen to the photographic and optic sides.
It would be nice to think they will continue but I have my doubts. This feels like an asset stripping takeover, very far from the merger first mooted.

Maybe we could chip in and make an offer. We'd be guaranteed of getting all the goodies we'd like then, wouldn't we?
Better do it soon before Viewfinder makes his bid and we end up with something less 'mindlessly complex' than the current offerings. A brick maybe ! ! !

It's all going to happen however it's going to happen, but in any event there's no reason why it should affect our decision to use Pentax. Mergers happen all the time, that's just the way it goes.
It seems that these days companies have to be big to survive, although it also makes it more difficult for them to adapt quickly to changing market conditions. Just look at Kodak's recent woes for a prime example.

More information being collected there.
Apparently the core Pentax businesses must remain, which I assume are Photographic, Life Care and ??? (not sure which of the others is core).
Seems other's can bid until June 1st...
If this goes well it could be very good for Pentax, lots more glass production and resources...
What are people's opinions on the takeover.
Still nothing concrete, which is a shame. I want some real news or a press release.
