Pentax 70mm ltd lens

Hello,
Although new to the forum I have been a Pentax user since 1969 and member of Pentax Users for many years. I love my K100D - very good handling and just the right size. I also like the 18-55mm kit lens, but did not find it very sharp. So I bought a 16-45mm, which is definitely a better lens, even if a bit heavy compared to the 18-55mm. So I complimented with the 40mm ltd, which is very handy and quite sharp. But I am now a bit short on the telephoto side. I want to keep my kit light and compact, so another zoom doesn't look attractive. I was considering the 70mm ltd, but have not managed to see many reviews of it. The price at SRS is high, so my first question is: "Is it worth it?" My second question is: "How do I convince my wife this is an essential purchase?" (but I suppose that one is for me to answer!).
Many thanks!

Answer 1: Never had one, but I've only read (very) good things about the DA70. It's up there with the FA77 - some even say it's better, I think.

Answer 2: Tell her you want the FA77, then say you'll compromise by going for the DA70. I mean look at how much you'll save.

I have one. It's certainly a mighty fine lens, and very sharp. Whether it's worth the current price I can't really say as I paid half that for a used but mint example. There's quite an element of patience and stealth in obtaining the limited lenses, unless you can afford to buy them new. You could always buy a good zoom, then wait for a 70mm and perhaps a 21mm or 15mm to come up second-hand, and eventually sell the zoom.

Try Argos on line. They seem to have the 70mm at around £370 at the moment.Elsewhere it is £470

I have the 70 and I find it to be an excellent lens in almost every way. It has the odd characteristic of requiring less unsharp mask after resizing which I simply don't understand at all. Lovely lens giving the Pentax feel to the image that you probably hope for.

That said you really need a wide angle lens first

DaveM beat me too it, but clicky.

Whether or not you will actually get one at this price is another matter. I ordered one but my order evaporated.
