Don't worry Smeggy, I'm sure this will turn into 13 pages, of hopes, dreams and hypothetical postulation soon enough.

A FF 54MP sensor arriving to make sure the new 645D is quickly out-classed in resolution

Although teased for my speculation about a 1.4x TC - it worked for me. Turned up a few days later so you might get lucky

A 54MP FF sensor would have about the same pixel density as the 24MP APS-C sensor in the K3, so I see no reason why it couldn't be made with current technology.

Random thoughts time:
In the 'old days' of 35mm film, was there ever any in body image stabilisation? Just wondering, as suspending a sensor obviously ups the size all around it, as it's now wider than just the sensor on it's own.
Are any brands doing in body stabilisation of a full frame sensor? The Sony A7 ones aren't right?
If this was bought to market, surely that would be a major first?
Oh, and building GPS into the body means all bodies then get astrotracing for free also, which seems a more practical/real first than the simulated AA filter use of the shake reduction.

Yes, Sony. Beginning way back in 2008 with the A900 then the A850 and presently the A99.Are any brands doing in body stabilisation of a full frame sensor?

Best regards

So it wasn't such a major first after all

Canon and Nikon still seem to have something against stabilising primes though.

It maybe too much too soon. 54MP? Noise? Dynamic range?
Many years ago it was said that a decent roll of film and a good lens would produce an image that gave around 50MP of detail if it was a digital sensor. Now the technology has advanced so much, a 16MP sensor problably is around what you would get in detail, unless you really wanted to create a poster the size of a building....
Still, if Sony actually pull it off and it does what I say, then WOW!
However, just think of the file sizes!

Smegs will still be moaning about high-ISO performance though

Indeed, but progressions in IQ are suffering becuase of the MP race. the Nikon D4 sensor which is 16MP hasn't got a great IQ reputation for nothing.A 54MP FF sensor would have about the same pixel density as the 24MP APS-C sensor in the K3, so I see no reason why it couldn't be made with current technology.
I'd much rather have a 16MP FF sensor than a 54MP one.

not such an impossibility.

A strong rumour is that Sony are working on a 54MP full Frame sensor. By the time Pentax release a FF DSLR it may well could feature a 54MP sensor.
Personally I think the MP race from a photographic POV is insane, I would much rather ( except for those that shoot pics for posters and billboards ) sensors stayed at < 20MP or even
