Oh that's just great - there I was, perfectly happy getting good quality shots with my lens, and now all of a sudden I'm wondering if it's as good as it should be!

Typical.

Perhaps I'll get in touch with Pentax.

I wish I'd never posted this now!!!!
However I've used the lens and am pleased to say it performs excellently.

To be honest, my post above was tongue-in-cheek - I doubt I'll be contacting Pentax as I'm perfectly happy with my lens.

Only thing is a bit of vignetting at 200mm at f/5.6, but soon disappears when you close down a stop, but to be honest, for a lens at this price you'd expect a lot worse than this little beauty!

Does this surprise anyone : I haven't used the pentax version but if the only differences are the absence of an SMC coating and the different barrel design I may way go for it...

That definitely looks like a typo... I'd say they missed the £100
This image here was taken this morning, through glass, hand held with the SMC-DA 50-200 at 200mm

Well I tried to order one, actually two at that price, but there's no home delivery option and the reserve and collect revealed that every store i could think of was out of stock.

Under those circumstances, the price is irrelevant!

Who says it doesn't have the SMC coating? All debate I've seen on various forums concurs both the Samsung and Pentax 50-200 are one and the same item both emanating from the same factory in Vietnam. The only difference being they're finished off cosmetically to reflect the particular company they're 'intended' for.

Yer best bet is to buy the cheapest you can find between these two brands unless of course you're a brand snob sort of person.

Well mine is beautifully smooth, no roughness at all

It seems almost all Samsung items advertised on the site are out of stock. The GX1L advertised at £299 allows neither home delivery or store collection !

You guys may have missed this thread (I must label my posts better)
but this particular lens was given a "best build quality" tag in a recent lens test.

Yup, "Merry Christmas" is not the most obvious title for a message about lens tests.

But I do hope Samsung brings out Schneider versions of the 2.8 zooms. They should come in at around £300.00.
