I have a Pentax 430 RS. I find that on using the movie clip I am uable to play it on my computer.
I have windows Media player 9 installed.
When I try to open the clip in Media Player I get the following...
Class not registered
sending request for codec
Error No. 80040154
on clicking on help I get the following
Sorry no more help is available for this problem at this time
The file format? is AV1
Can anyone help me with this problem? Jack Stoddart (Silver Surfer)

Jack,

The file format "AVI" only dictates the file structure, and not the encoding. Within an AVI file there can be any number of encodings

You need to obtain the correct codec (the software that performs the appropriate decoding) for the file. You need to install the "M-JPEG" codec. Apart from installing the support files for your Optio, you can download various versions of the MJPEG codec:

Here's one link: http://modular.fas.harvard.edu/MOM/

FYI, most digicams use the MJPEG encoding for their internal video format.

Hope that helps,
Matt

Hi there. I'm having exactly the same problem watching .avi files taken on my pentax optio. Does anyone have an up to date link for the MJPEG codec.

Since the link has disappeared, others have been asking about MJPEG support for the Pentax.

Here are the findings:

(By "authoring" I mean being able to produce, edit, and output to MJPEG - Motion JPEG - format on the PC)

Hope that helps
