Pentax 150 - 450

Popped into SRS and offloaded a few lenses and a couple of bob yesterday ( service terrific as normal, can recommend) and came out with a 150-450. On the way home decided to try it out at the zoo. Only had the camera and a 1.4x HD converter in the car with me, forgot my monopod though so came away with bulging arms at the end of the afternoon.
The pictures taken were nothing special but I just wanted to get an overall initial feel of the lens and its use with a converter. I was well pleased with the results and am sure after a bit of practice (and a monopod) I will get used to this just nicely.
Below are a few taken with and without converter. Once I put the converter on the lens I left it on as I had no pocket to carry it in hence varying exif details.

So that dispels the statements that you shouldn't use a convertor on a zoom lens. Very impressed.

good pictures, straight out of the camera meaing you shoot in JPEG?
i can't help but notice the animals all look very sad

Very nice indeed, the shots with the converter look just as sharp as those without.

They were JPEGS resized only, nothing else done to them whatsoever.

As it was a warm late afternoon most were just lazing around, the lioness just lifted her head, looked at me long enough to get the shot and then she lay back down again, they do after all sleep 20 odd hours a day in the wild. The young piglet was nosing around in the dirt, the magpie has just landed and was keeping an eye on the brown bear hiding in the bushes, the deer was resting but has free roaming rights throughout most of the park, the elephants were on their walk together trunk to tail through the park and the zebra doing what they usually do, grazing. Funnily enough the hippos were probably the most active of all the animals.
It was Whipsnade Zoological park where most of the animals have lots of room to roam and do what they do naturally. I'm sure we would all rather see them in their natural habitat but the way the world is at the moment sadly that's not always possible.
