Hi All, Been looking for a macro lens for a while and I have just come across this on ebay(see link) Can any members give advice on this lens pls, as I don't have much knowledge of the older stuff. I know its manual focus which is fine, but will the metering system work Ok with this lens on my camera! and what kind of price should would be reasonable

Any help would be most appreciated

ps cant seem to get a direct link posted for ebay.

It's a M lens (I have the 50mm f4 version) so will need to be metered via the green button. Value wise about £100 if its in good condition.

Cliff, this is a M series lens & has no electrical contacts so metering can only be done on a stop-down basis. If you're going to shoot still life macro then it's no real issue as you can adjust exposure & try again. If you're aiming to capture insects then the noise from the stop-down meter may scare them off.

Edit... mike beat me to it

Here is the LINK although I would be very careful with that seller, he has changed his name a few times due to bad feedback. I have bought a couple of things from him, first was a Tamron Adaptall 2 19AH 70-210mm f3.5 which was advertised as mint (and was), another was a Tamron Adaptall 2 35-80mm f3.5 which was also advertised as mint .. and was rubbish.
Had to send it back, have read a lot of stories about him not refunding if you return with no proof of delivery. Lucky for me he only lives a few miles away.

Echhh... I just bought a lens from that fella! Still awaiting his 'invoice'.

That lens (the 100mm macro) is £150 in my local camera shop!

I would say thats a bit steep for the f4 version, not bad if it's the f2.8 though.

Mike, thanks for that always handy to know.

Bob, thanks for your info, very helpful and informative stuff. By the sound of it this is not the lens I need, manual focus is fine but I do need auto exposure for the insects and stuff(those butterflies just wont keep still)

Many thanks fellas
Cliff.

My butterfly was taken with the 50mm version.

Sorry, bit off topic, but what's going on with the background of that pic?

Dan
