Is it the F or FA version, The FA version doesn't get many good reviews, one review considers it one of the 2 worst lenses Pentax ever made.

That sounds pretty extreme - I have seen very good reviews of this lens. Unfortunately it's one I haven't actually used.

The F gets favourable reviews on the 'other' forum....the FA which differs only in the fact it has PowerZoom is criticized for being soft at the long end, despite being optically identical....make of that what you will...
I guess they are not on par with the FA 80-320, how they compare with the FA-J 75-300 I don't know either...

I had the 4.7-5.8 version, which has better reviews. I liked it, but it was soft at the 300 end. Sold it as I'm getting a 55-300 from our freinds at SRS!
