Pentax AF/MF compatability?

Two questions on using Pentax K (no electrical contacts) with modern Pentax AF cameras:

1: Can the camera work in auto exposure if the lens does not have electric contents (at least in shutter priority if not apature prioriy)?

2: Does the autofocus system give any "in focus" signal for the selected focus point when manually focussing the old MF lenses?

If there are no electrical contacts, as with SMC Pentax and SMC Pentax-M lenses, you can use the lens for manual exposure or for aperture priority auto exposure (you set the aperture, the camera sets the shutter speed)

If you use a manual focusing lens and set the camera on autofocus there is a focus confirmation symbol in the viewfinder. When this is lit the camera assesses that the lens is focused optimally. Your eyes might disagree!

One point to note is that the K and M lenses will only allow your modern camera to operate with center-weighted average light metering. You need the contacts for any of the matrix modes to work. There are more details at
