PC camera driver installation error

Please help!

I wanted to install the pc camera driver(for Optio X; from the official CD-ROM) and it showed that error:



What could be wrong?

Looks like you are using MS XP

Make sure that Service Pack 2 is installed and all updates are also installed. Then try again.

Also download the latest drivers
Also note page 7 of the manual regarding installation

Much better to avoid the problem and use a card reader.

Yes I am and there's nothing wrong with it.

And I do have SP 2, just not sure about the updates - are they really that necessary?


Hm, I knew that? That's where I found out my camera could work as a web cam.

Oh. Not enough hard disk space.

What's a card reader?

You plug the card reader into a USB connection on your PC. The card reader has slots that will take most or all types of memory card. You take the card out of your camera and insert it in the reader and then copy the images onto your computer. It's faster, more reliable and doesn't run the risk of your camera batteries failing during a transfer, which would probably corrupt your image files.

Card readers can be less than £10.

Also make sure that you login as an administrator before installing drivers. If you have only normal user staus, driver installation will probably fail.

I am administrator on my computer...and everything else seems to be in place, just that stupid driver is not.

I think there's a minor misunderstanding...copying images is working just fine, what I'd like to do is set my camera as a web cam(I guess I forgot to mention that before).

Have you disabled anti-virus, anti-spyware etc?

Oh, I have to do that?


The thing is that it starts the installing, then that error pop up.

Advice: Get a dedicated webcam. Your camera will last longer, you'll not waste any time installing drivers for making an item perform a task for which it was not really designed (just because it can do it, doesn't mean you have to make it do it), A webcam is good at what it does, serve moving images over the 'net. A camera is good at what it does, taking photo's. Try not to confuse the two functions. A decent Logitech web cam costs next to nothing and you'll save yourself a heap of time.

Hey, thanks, but ... hehe, I figured it on my own then - yes, about my Pentax camera working as a webcam - there were just some setting on(in?) the camera to set..so it's working now, yay.
