This is the roof of the Botanical Gardens in Wales. I have turned this into mono by using calculations.

Is it me or is the bottom of the border bent

Nice one Sue, and welcome to the forum.

The bottom is perfectly straight, its an optical illusion. It happened with the top edge on my 'Street Sleeper' image due to the linear effect of the bars in the photo.

Just goes to show that you can't believe what you see. It's standard practice in building to camber any beams, because straight one's look like they are sagging.

An old trick indeed; the Athenians modified the width of the columns of the Parthenon for the same reason. The Egyptians probably did the same.

Rolls Royce used to make the radiator grill headers concave so they looked flat. So i'm told, never actually measured one!! Striking picture by the way

Hi Karl,Calculations is a way to turn colour images into B/W by using channels. This gives you more choice in the final image.

To find calculations go to IMAGE-CALCULATIONS (fifth one down) Because you only have one image open your source 1 & source 2 will be fixed as the same image. In the SOURCE 1 channel box make sure RED is selected, In SOURCE 2 you can play with the other channels to get the effect you like. You can then change the BLENDING mode, again to your taste. When you are happy with your B/W photo select NEW DOCUMENT in the RESULTS box, click OK, & you have a multi channel image. To make this a normal file go to IMAGE-MODE-GREYSCALE & save as required.

Sue was talking about Photoshop in general and CS2 in particular, but versions from 7 onwards offer this feature.

If you scroll up and down using the mouse wheel whilst looking at the image it looks like it's moving! hope that's not just me who can see that. Interesting shot, I like the patterns. I have a shot a bit like that whilst the sun was setting lighting all the beams orange - but didn't compose it as well as you did!
