Most couriers won't cover damage to lenses. But in terms of loss they will pay out.
Try http://www.parcel2go.com/ and see what they can offer. But check the T&Cs carefully.
If that doesn't work out there is the option of insuring through a third party. I don't know of any specific companies.
A final thought is will Johnsons collect?

I just sent a £1000 laptop via Special Delivery this week and that cost £26
Royal Mail are getting very picky about their compensation terms now they've been privatised and will only cover for the original purchase price not the replacement price.

Also if you use the original box to post the item it should arrive safely the original boxes are pretty good packaging devices

They returned my k-5 in its original box when I had a repair done by them.
