I agree number 1 is the best. Colour wise, and compositionally better.

Curiouser and curiouser My personal preference is number 3 (which got no love) or number 4 (marmite reaction)!!
Do most people prefer number 1 because the paperweight is on the right side? That was the last shot of the evening, and I moved the paperweight to the right after dimly recalling something about leading the eye in from the left.

Barrie I might have a play around and try and get rid of those 6 spots of light. They're not spotlights by the way, those are all reflections of my single flash, being refracted around a bit I guess. The flash was to my left, pointing at the wall behind the paperweights. That was the only way I could find to get the glass to appear reflective.
No matter what flash angle I tried there was always a blown out spot or two. Most angles were much worse One of the hazards of spherical bits of glass I suppose!

Heheh my wife has about a dozen of these, inherited from a great aunt or something. They are quite elderly I believe. Hang on a minute ... you're an archaeologist! You tell me!
