Pan Focus

Hello All,

I found a sigma lens with "pan focus" written on the focusing ring. Does it mean something special ? Any explanation would be appreciated.

I haven't come across the sigma "panfocus" lens. However, Pentax did make an 18mm one for the 110 SLR. The idea is that there is no focus movement in the lens. It is permantly at the hyperfocal length and relies on the depth of field to provide focus. A bit like the cheap plastic cameras that came free with cornflakes
The odd thing about the Pentax one is that it was sold as a cheap alternative and most people got the proper lens. As a result few were sold and now it is sought after by collectors and they get a very good price on the second hand market. I don't think this would happen with the Sigma!

Do you mean it is like using the fixed focus mark on certain SMC Takumar lenses ? Well I guess there's nothing special then.
