Sandy,
If you can definately rule out the possibility of battery failure (by trying an alternative), then my first course of action would be to contact the retailer.
If you bought locally, it could save you considerable time and expense because: a) he may identify the problem and fix it on the spot, b) arrange for the repair under warranty on your behalf and c) might be prepared to loan a suitable camera to you until yours is returned.
There's a number of 'possible maybe's' but I think it's worth a try.
Good luck.

Die my dear doctor, that's the last thing I shall do!

Thanks Kimbo
Retailer isn't local - purchased from 24/7 electrical on the net.
Will contact them and see where I stand.
Thanks again Kimbo.

What kind of battery are you using? Normal off the shelf alkaline batteries will not work in these cameras, you must use high capacity rechargables (I use 2100mah nimh).

Can't suggest anything else other than to try cleaning the contacts on both the camera and battery. Sounds similar to the problems people have had with earlier models, sadly Pentax seem to have been little or no help in fixing things.

Got a silly problem with my S50 - when I turn it on it immediately turns itself off. It's like the on/off button is jammed. Battery is still full.
Whats the best thing to do here?
Camera was bought in January so I guess its still under warranty but I really nead the camera for my job and being without it for any period of time would cause me lots of inconvenience.
Is it possible to try and fix this myself? Anyone else had this problem?
With regards to the warranty - do I send it back to the retailer or direct to Pentax. On average how long would it take til I get it back?
Your advice would be greatly appreciated.
Kind Regards
Sandy
