Optio S40 wont turn on

Using fully charged batterys i swithch it on and the light comes on for 1 sec then swithes off.

any ideas people , was brand new 3 days ago.

I hope that you keep the button pressed for about 3 seconds, right? The camera won't turn on straight up sometimes, so you have to keep the button pressed.

Yeah i hold it pressed and the light comes on the just turns off , the lens dont retract at all ,

My s40 won't turn on after I try to insert a memory card. The last time it happened, Pentax sent me a new s40 and that did exactly the same. I got the guys at the camera shop to put the memory card in for me and then it wouldn't turn on. They couldn't explain it either. The light comes on for 1 second, then it turns itself off. Who can help?
