Optio s40 repair question

Hi all, I had a freind recently give me his older optio s40 he no longer used. he says he gave it a good ding awhile back and it stopped working for him. well i identified that what was wrong was this small motor that lowers and raises the lens. I found what looks like a 2mm cube shaped object that has 2 metallic surfaces with a brown center lodged in one of the latches. I started camera and everything seems to work except the flashing. when it starts the red led flashes a few times. when i snap a picture there is no flash. Any ideas what this cube shaped object is or where it belongs? im thinking it has something to do with the flash mechanism but im not sure.this object kind of looks like those tiny transistors ( resistors?)you see soldered onto pcb boards. if i can get its flash working Then i pretty much got a fully working camera that was free.

I doubt anybody here can answer that question. We might be brave where older mechanical comeras are concerned, but modern electronics , , , no way. Sorry, it sounds like a repair job for Pentax, which will probably cost more than the camera is worth. If no flash is the only issue, live with it. It's still a cheap camera.
