optio s4 for christmas--HELP

I got the optio s4 as a gift. I was looking for something small. But I also wanted to be able to take fairly good pictures.
I can't seem to get nice colors or clarity on indoor shots, but maybe this is due to my being a novice.
any recommended settings for better results? (i've tried setting sensitivity at 50...still not so sure i'm pleased.)
or should i just sell the thing on ebay?
