Hello all.

I’m a newcomer to all this and I have just bought a Pentax Optio M50 by way of dipping my toe into digital photography waters and am looking at buying a memory card to upgrade its 51.1 MB internal memory. I have read the manuals and throughout the text can only see reference to using SD memory although in the appendix under “storage media” it mentions both SD and SDHC, and the front cover shows the SDHC emblem too, I assume both of these types can be used. Also, there is a table in the appendix which shows still picture storage capacity and storage times for the camera with a half gig SD card fitted and elsewhere mentions recording video in blocks of 2 gig but it doesn‘t actually give maximum or minimum values for memory cards. My questions are; What‘s the largest card size I can use? And would there be any benefit in using SDHC instead of SD in a camera of this type?

Thanks

Ken

SDHC is simply High capacity version of SD. Whatever you can buy you can use.

The benefit of a larger capacity card is that it holds more images, the downside is that if the card becomes faulty then you could lose more images as well.

I tend to use cards up to 2GB, but mostly 512MB and 1GB.
Best regards, John
