Optio A10's CCD image stabilizer

Have you seen the new A10 Pentax anounced on the CES? It has an image stabilizer based on CCD movement (a la Konica Minolta).

It would be quite nice to have this technology on a K-mount body... suddenly, all my lenses would be stabilized (should I want to)!

I find it hard to believe this is Samsung technology... maybe Pentax has been working on this for some time?

Pentax was the first camera manufacturer, I believe, to patent a method of image stabilisation, but have not until now produced an image-stabilised camera.

It will be interesting to see whether the *ist D repacement due this autumn will have IS.

One thing people forget is that IS only stabilises the camera. It does nothing to reduce blur caused by subject movement. If you shake, it'll help. If your subject shakes, it won't.

A cheaper solution is to reduce the alcohol intake. That'll save money in two ways.

I have seen a friend with an IS lens try to shoot some pics indoors with available light; it actually stabilized the background at low speeds, so it came out much better than I thought (not motion blurred), but there was nothing it could do about the people moving...

Actually, unless you're shooting something that doesn't move on a telephoto lens, IS seems to have very limited use. In fact, it can even hinder the user if left on all the time (the image in the viewfinder "shakes"). Anyone with a different view on IS?

Oh, Pentax calls it's image stabilization SR (shake reduction).
