For what it's worth, in my opinion:-

#1 - leave it alone, lovely as it stands;
#2 - There's too much negative space at the bottom, so crop up to just below where the walker's shadow ends - say about where the damper sand cuts the left hand edge of the frame;
#3 - make it into a square by cropping from the left to put the man on the third. (i.e. I'd crop between the 5th & 6th trees from the left edge.)

Good luck

What he said ^

Plus, the second looks to have a lot of burnt shadows.

If its a camera club comp where 2 DPI's can be submitted I'd go with 1 & 3

Personally I think that the symmetry in No's 1 and 3 is too perfect...daft as that might sound. Great colours in No.1 but it almost looks like an inflamed, swollen blood vessel about to rupture.

No.3 ...my eyes are just totally confused by the image...there is too much going on and the pattern is too regular for me...saved a bit by the figure ...but even then it is dead centre which doesn't help as much as it would if it was off centre like Phil suggested.

No.2 is probably my favourite...I'd probably leave it as it is or if you wanted the flag symmetry with this one trim a bit of the bottom so that the bottom water was the same width as the top sky.

Just some personal preferences really. Had i taken any of those images i'd probably have been quite pleased with them overall.

I have a slightly different opinion on these in that I think 2 and 3 are the best. Number 1 is lovely, but there's nothing that adds that little bit extra, colours are nice, it's well shot, reflections are nice, there's nothing to criticise, but for me it doesn't have that 'something' that would make it special.

2 and 3 on other hand have the human element which adds so much. For number 2, I would crop it hard at either the top or the bottom, not sure which, I'm leaning towards the top to make it look unusual and to make the mass of space at the bottom work in its favour.

Number 3 I love. I like the man in the middle, I like the mass of trunks and branches, I like the fact that it's a bit different.

The first image has pretty colours but my eye doesn't have anywhere to go. I don't know what to look at, if that makes any sense.

The second one, as others have said, needs something trimmed off top or bottom.

The last is the stand-out image for me, although I would try and shift the figure off being dead centre. Not sure I'd go with a square crop, but may be 5x4? In general, I find the default 6x4 an uncomfortable ratio for an image.

Just my halfpence worth, others will no doubt have other views.

Thanks very much guys for taking the time to go through each photo. I'm going to play around with some of those ideas although the last one is pretty much as I envisioned before taking the shot.

Number two for me is the best and all the water at the bottom makes it - without it you will lose the sense of 'loneliness' for want of a better term that the image has, you've lost a bit of detail on the rocks you could perhaps selectively lighten that and avoid lightening the guy or the dog. If anything I would darken the dog to be more silhouette like the human.

Just my opinion, among a sea of differing ones I'm sure

#3 for me. Crazy contrast/shapes/details/busy image.

#1 seems a tab blurry in places, like a big mess. It also seems to be leaning slightly to the left. Very vibrant, but just doesn't wow me.

#2 seems a tad boring for my tastes. Looks underexposed and I feel there could be details in the wall that could contribute.

All the best for your competition.
