It may by my lap-top monitor, but it doesn't appear very sharp, but perhaps that was your intention, Mak. Nice strong colours, though.

I was going for soft, which is what this lens excels at. Out of focus areas have an almost 'painted' quality about them, which I think is really nice (though others might not agree!). Also it gets really close for a zoom of this kind of range - the image above is not cropped at all.

Nice, but I would desaturate the purple petal top right as it's a bit of a distraction. Lovely composition though.

I tend to agree with Algi. Nice colours and composition, but to me it seems more "out of focus" than "painted quality".

I just think it's a nice image. I'm certainly open to criticism (as my other photo threads will attest) but in this case I'm inclined to think it's a matter of taste. What I mean is, I don't think having the whole subject flower in sharp focus would make it a better image. Different, and made with different intent, certainly, but not necessarily 'better'. It's not always about proving your camera and lens are the world's sharpest.

If the main Tulip would be sharp to the point and the background blurred due to focus I would say 'great shot' but somehow the whole picture seems flat and out of focus, sorry.
I, by miles, be not a master and there are more competent people here then me. At the end, all what counts is that YOU like it and can see what YOU wanted to archive.
It sadly does nothing for me but that does not mean its not good, it's just not for ME!
I hope you understand what I mean.

Of course. I'm far from a master either, I really consider myself a beginner (and when it comes to photographing people, an ABSOLUTE beginner). As I said I think it's a matter of taste. My wife and another friend really liked the shot but they are both more 'arty' types in the sense that they both paint (though my wife is also into photography). I think it probably appeals more to their kind of aesthetic, some of which has no doubt rubbed off on me.

Yeah the lighting in our kitchen is not great. It looks a lot better in the photo than it does in real life.
