Online Galleries

I've been using Pbase as my online gallery for ages, I’ve always been satisfied with the features and speed but lately the response has been abysmal, wondering if anybody else here has been having the same problems.

Reading the Pbase forum does not inspire me that they are going to fix it anytime soon so I’m looking for recommendation from users of other online galleries.

Hi, although not a big user of online galleries, I have used photobucket.com
to upload photos to another forum etc,. Might be worth a look,

I myself are quit happy with www.zenfolio.com
It has no forum, but hey.........I kind of like it here
Have a look at my site to look at the style. They offer a paid and free membership. The first offers unlimited Photo file storage and a lot of other goodies.

I use it....but haven't sold anything. I don't think it is the strongest future of zenfolio.But then.....,it's not my goal....yet But what I really like is the possibility for unlimited online storage.
And the options you have in protecting your pictures, what you allow to be seen, watermarking and styles you have at your disposal.
And....., given the package they offer, I don't consider them expensive.
But that is strictly personal, obviously.

Jalbum also offer an online service now. Quite a reasonable price. Zenfolio is probably more professional looking though. Not sure if you can hot link from Jalbum either, I always use photobucket for that.

I switched to Photium after getting fed up with doing it myself
It is run by Will - who did the original programming for ePhotozine. It's very fast, well run and has a zillion options - especially for selling
Not that expensive either for a full hosting service!

I'm in love with Flickr!

I have a Gallery of pics on pbase on the Brentwood & District Photographic Club section http://www.pbase.com/bdpc/peter_elgar_gallery
and I am on photogalaxy.com where it 'hosts' photos and I can upload my Pentax pics to this forum from there. There are very many members of photogalaxy BUT only a very few join in the 'Forum' where you can upload photos for comment etc. but when the site has a competition with a good camera as a prize all these other members come out of the woodwork and win all the prizes - nobody from the regular Forum members has won anything !

I've had a good look around Zenfolio, Photium and Flickr, I actually like them all but I've discounted Photium on the grounds of cost and storage limit.

I like Flickr's Pro options, unlimited storage plus the ability to upload PEF/DNG archives, nice to know there is another backup should disaster strike. Zenfolio's unlimited option looks good, I like how I can use my own domain name but will have to see how /if that causes conflict with my personal website.

Not in a hurry yet as I've recently renewed my Pbase account although I'm a bit uneasy as to how long Pbase will be around, they are not gaining many friends/new users due to their silence on the performance issues.

I have recently gone with Flickr and i am still going through all the options and features it has.
I didn't know you could upload PEF files : Thats just another reason to upgrade to the pro option i guess. So far i like what i see

I'm a happy Flickr Pro user, however I think you should double check about the PEF/DNG file thing. I didn't know you can upload RAW. As far as I'm aware (although this may have changed recently) you can upload a TIFF file but you can't download it again, only a JPEG version, so it isn't ideal for backup purposes.

Also note that Flickr Pro accounts have a 20MB upload size limit, so even if you can upload RAW files the bigger ones, e.g. from a K20D or K7, will be a problem.

I really like SmugMug.

Unlimited storage for files 12MB and under, and if you pay extra you can also upload and store RAW files. There's a lot of control over how things look, even with the basic package. And it is possible for people to download decent size files (if you want them to be able to) or order prints through shopping basket. If you go for more expensive accounts, you get to keep more of the money from the sales.

One more thing for Photoshop Elements users like me - if you set up your PSE preferences to make it think you're in the USA, then under the "share" menu, you get a "send to SmugMug" option, which makes sending things to your account an absolute doddle.

I suppose this links to what may be a disadvantage for some - it's an American site, and any printing etc is done over there before being shipped over here. Doesn't bother me, but it might bother others.
