Amazing weather today - just like Summer - in fact better than the weather in August

So we just had to pop in here for lunch

If George is online at the moment, he no doubt remembers the location

I love the composition

I may be in danger of falling in should I ever stop for a pint or two (self confessed beer wimp)

It does look like that, but in fact the shoreline changes direction and I was sitting on the edge of the water

Thanks for drawing my attention to this, Hyram. Great picture.

When I kept a boat on Hayling Island, I was a regular here. It was fun sailing up to the pub at high tide, as the chaps in your picture have done, and knocking back a pint or two of Pompey.

On more than one occasion we pushed our luck and had a devil of a time getting back to deep water. As you know, at low tide the area in front of the pub dries out. If you miss the tide, you're stuck in the pub for ten hours.

Well, there are worse ways to spend your time.

Correction. The owner of the blue boat motored up, by the look of it. Presumably that's your tender?

No - we walked round from Northney.

Although our dinghy is still inflated on the coachroof, the outboard motor has been put away for the winter

We have been to the Royal Oak by dinghy in the past, but we normally walk and hope to get a few good photographs along the way

Count yourself lucky if you fall in. At low tide it's a drop to hard sand. Much less comfortable a landing.

There can't be many pubs on the edge of the sea like that, but as it's sheltered by Hayling Island, they're not troubled unduly by storms.
