Hi all,

haven't seen as many pictures here recently, so I thought I'd start..

It would have looked nicer with an old steam engine billowing smoke, but they weren't running. I just liked the way the track snaked up the shot.

I've added a very faintly noised (well, I know what I mean) sepia layer to it.. almost un-noticeable, but it does add a bit of age to the shot compared to the original

Cheers

Nice but could really do with a train or other action
Perhaps you could go back when they are running

I think its great - a train would only be a distraction, making it harder to take in the wonderful curve of the track. Nice picture

Thanks chaps..

it's one of several that I took in and around Paignton a couple of weeks ago. I've got another couple I'll post, but the sensor was absolutely filthy.. and it'll take a while to clean them up.

I've since cleaned the sensor, and I'm off up to Yorkshireland on Monday for a few days, so I'll have some more next weekend hopefully.

Cheers

the sepia layer and 'noise' work well. understated and gritty.

A nice picture - just a shame about the holidayhomes in the background - but then again it is Paignton !

I'm a bit late commenting on this.

In my youth, I used to go rock-climbing in North Wales, and this pic really brings back memories of the gritty, grimy, grey, coal towns around the fringes of Snowdonia.

Very evocative, and if you hadn't said Paignton, I would have assumed Blaenau Ffestiniog.

Nice one. At this size, the houses are not really big enough to cause a problem. Up close, I imagine they would not win many architectural prizes.

I think the holiday homes sort of add to it IMHO. If you were on the train in the fifties, the era that the photo suggests I hope.. looking out of the window (I know the viewpoint is too high for that.. ) That would be the welcome scene of the location for the holiday away from the factory/farm whatever for the week.

Ooh, bucket and spade, jumpers for goalposts.. oh yes!

Yes, I'm making it up as I go along.. but you get the idea.

Cheers

As one born and bred in North Wales I can't remember many coal towns near Snowdonia - near Wrexham perhaps! Blaenau Ffestiniog is/was a slate town.

at yesterday's result

Can someone explain to me how I can get an image into a posting. Do I have to have a link to a site such as Photobox or ePhotoZine? I've tried copying from an image from my HD but it does not work. So help please, pretty please.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Howard,

yes, you're correct in that it needs to be hosted online somewhere. Some use their own website, others use a photo hosting site, such as you've suggested. Once you've got the photo online somewhere you need to use the image tags to post here, like so..

[ img]http://www.liamsworld.org.uk/pug/ontherails.jpg[/img ]

.. but removing the spaces I've put in the tags (so I don't actually post the image again)

You also need to remember to post the full url, including http://, as if you just start it with www the forum software tries to find it in it's own directory. ie. on this site.

You're absolutely right, Howard. But the visual effect on a wet Sunday is the same.

Indeed, George Ffestiniog is not a place I would choose to visit on a wet afternoon like today.

Thanks for your advice Liam. This is a severly cropped and manipulated, perhaps over manipulated, image taken in Holyhead last summer in the early days of my digital experience with a DL2.
