Oil Painting

Hi All:

Using my Pentax *DSL2 any suggestions in capturing a picture of a OIL PAINTING which is hanging in my flat ??

Place the painting flat, put the camera on a tripod and ensure the camera back is parallel to the painting. Also make sure the camera is central. Check that the light is even and there are no reflections. Focus very carefully and use a medium aperture for best quality, say f8 or f11. Check the exposure and take the picture using the 2 second self timer to avoid any shake.

Also make sure that the camera is set to "no flash mode".
I have also been taking some of oil paintings so I can list them on Ebay. Thay have all come out fine.

I had enough AIR MILES point to get a Canon Selphy printer and have a few in my flat and was wanting to send some as postcards instead of letters to family and friends etc.

I and my partner have been photographing in studio a number of local artists' paintings, oil, acrylic, gouache, and watercolor.

It's not easy. We finally quit fooling around with our Novatron and began using available light. Studio has huge bay windows facing West, so we do the photos just after the sun dips below the high mountains and use a Photoflex LightDisc (14X10/1.5" to bounce light onto the East side of the painting.

Seems to work well. We've also managed to move softboxes about the studio to the point that we get good colors and no reflections. We do that on cloudy and dismal days, of which we've been having many this winter. Including snow! And below freezing temperatures?

I might also add that we are very precise in aligning the camera to the painting.
