Official Photographer.

I have been nominated official photographer for 2 family functions (the honour).
One of my sisters is having her 50 birthday at my mothers home , this is not an issue as I have no fear , if catastrophe strikes.
No it is my nieces 17th party at a function hall which is causing me some anxiety as I will have to photograph her friends .AS she wants a" photo booth" style setup.
I will use my new k-s1 ,(50-200mm) possibly with the flu card., which i may connect to my ipad4 , which in turn maybe connected to wireless printer. keeping things simple i may do without the printer.
if so i may email the subjects their photographs.
my sister has suggested i place my contact details on the photographs as it may lead to paid work.
Are their any members of the forum who have any experience of this, what should i prepare for?

ALSO I only have a pop up flash , but am considering a spare battery or 2 , does anyone have any experience.

Regards.

Concentrate on the photography, keep it simple. All the other technology is fine if well rehearsed, but otherwise you might spend too much time fiddling with it and that won't look good.

I would go from table to table and shoot images in situ, but that's a preference for you to decide obviously. Flash on camera bracket, diffuser to soften it a little, and nothing over elaborate to get in the way.

Maybe some available light shots later if you're feeling more adventurous.
Best regards, John

Agree with all the above advice ... That printing set up sounds like a disaster waiting to happen! Unless you have really had this up and working reliably many times before, in an ACTUAL VENUE, I'd skip it and concentrate on getting good shots.

As John said, a flashgun on a bracket will give the best compromise between portability and image quality. If you're not able to get a flash and be ready to use it in time, there are some quite effective diffusers for pop -up flashes available, which should give a better softer light on the faces ... But it is a small light source so it will be fairly hard light still. Keep it controlled with some minus flash compensation and it could work ok.

But again, I'd practise the set up lots before to make sure your settings are working reliably. If there's not enough flash power then you can increase ISO to boost this ... I'd have thought up to 1600-3200 on your new camera would be fine , and at these ISO settings you will be able to record some ambient light mixed with the flash to give a more natural result. In manual mode, the shutter time value will control the amount of ambient light recorded, (and probably add to the warmth of colour tone) . With the pop -up you'll mainly have to control flash brightness with flash compensation as it is fixed in P-TTL mode and will try and adjust for aperture changes.

You can hire a photo booth

If you use the 'pop up' flash I would suggest as many spare batteries as possible, these flashes eat up the power! Better to go with John's advice
Once you have all the photos on the computer you could just 'Batch Rename' them adding your 'contact'
