Not the boat show!

Went to the motor show last night - just a fiver to get in after 5pm.

Took just the K10D and the 10-20, just for a bit of practice, really, since I've never photographed cars before. The results weren't great, since there were lots of people in the way most of the time.

But I was delighted with the lens, and with the effectiveness of the SR.

And I thought it would be rude not to post this picture...

You probably didn't go into the wrong room first!!

There was the big hall with all the cars, and the one on the opposite side of the main corridor through the middle, with a lot of smaller stalls. We went in there by mistake first, which was where the Canon stand was. They were showing off some Ixus or other, I think.

You're right, I didn't give that hall much more than a quick glance - wish I had now though!

As I mentioned, a lot of my photos were spoiled, inevitably, by all the people milling around.

So I thought I'd have a quick go at cutting the subject out of the background.

Here's the result... I know the reflection of all the people behind the railing is a bit naff, but I'm more interested in the technique of getting the border right - as you can see it's just a little too big, but when I reduced it a bit, the edge definition wasn't so good.

So rather than fiddle about for ages, I thought I'd post this for C&C and suggestions on good ways of getting borders cut out accurately.

Sorry to bump this thread, but if anyone has any suggestions, I'd greatly appreciate any tips on how to accurately cut around borders, as I've patently failed to do with the Morgan above.

Hi Chris, If you mean cut-out selections in post editing and you have PS CS than arguably the pen tool is the best tool for the job. It works by creating a path that is converted to a selection afterwards. Using the pen tool lets you alter very precise the curves of a path between points.Just Google pen tool for PS and you should find some tutorials.

Well I've now had a go with the pen tool.

Would you believe, I'd never used it, since I'd always assumed it was for writing with.
