Not new at all

Well I thought I'd post in here (despite not being new to the forum by any means) because, after coming very close to switching to Nikon, I've changed my mind and am sticking with Pentax. I just love my Pentax kit too much, having lovingly assembled it to fit my interests - plus the money it would cost me to switch could buy some nice glass WITHOUT the sadness of changing systems. Does this make me a born-again Pentaxian?

Welcome back

Switching to Nikon is one of those things i think many of us consider every now and then! The D7000 simply inspired a new round of it! I sat down and worked out the cost of switching only last night, and concluded I'd rather try out the K5 and save the extra two grand (and that's without getting VR everything!). This is all presuming that the K5 AF improvements are significant ...

How did you guess it was the D7000? In my case it wasn't so much dissatisfaction with the AF (OK, it's not great) but a desire for some fast glass - the AF of the D7000 was just another 'pull' factor. I was always reluctant though because I'm very attached to my gear, and then I worked out that switching to Nikon would actually cost me more than the lenses on my wishlist and that was that .

Oh the timing helped It looks like a great camera for a great price. The problem I found is that getting VR in my most used lenses that would be a killer, waaaay out of my budget.

Good VR lenses aren't always cheap - my used 70-200 VR1 was the same price as my DA*60-250 new - getting a medium range zoom with VR is full of compromises - the AF-S 24-70 isn't VR but the 24-120 is, however not everyone likes the 24-120....To put it another way, expensive Nikon doesn't always mean good and conversely many of the cheaper Nikkors are highly rated....

Good to see you staying
