I have a collection of skies, all containing interesting clouds, obviously. There was a time when I used to insert an interesting sky to improve a landscape with a dull grey or plain blue one. But I don't snymore: it's quite fun to do, but hard to make look right. (You can usually see the join!)

There was a tutorial in Amateur Photographer recently on how to do that. Not something I have tried myself.

It is an illusion that photos are made with the camera… they are made with the eye, heart and head. Henri Cartier-Bresson
Lots of film bodies, a couple of digital ones, too many lenses (mainly older glass) and a Horseman LE 5x4.

Actually I'm not sure how I feel about using PS [ or PSE or whatever ] to 'improve' a photo to that extent.
this excercise on Symmetry - well the review of our pics was interesting.
A surprising number were not actually symmetrical - oh yes an object was - the front end of a vintage / classic car etc. was - but the background was totally out of kilter . so he used PS to show us how you could take bits out and add a layer in using paste and copy from the other side . I can't help feeling that's going too far , likewise deciding that the sky should be bluer than it was when the photo was taken

Sounds more like illustration or graphic design rather than photography to me!

That was my feeling - still I have learnt huge amount so far - though thanks to this week's weather no homework has yet been done
He has admitted that the day course he teaches there is part of a media course.
While this rain/snow continues I really can't leave the house - blasted leak in the roof and I have to watch strategically placed buckets

As well as getting 2 pics this week [ night time in Town / abstract road signs / twilight magic few minutes ] , we are supposed to be getting shots of sky for use in future PS work .
This was today's and I don't think it what he wanted . The blasted bird had been sitting there for about 2 hours. I just about got this shot between drops of rain/sleet/snow. There do seem to be some buds forming on those branches - perhaps Spring is on the way , or maybe I'm just feeling hopeful after seeing a pig or two moving past my windows
