Northern Lights

Yesterday night there was very high Northern Lights activity over Norway (the Northern Hemisphere), and fortunately I was down by the Trondheimsfjord with my camera. Pentax K20D and DA 12-24mm f4.

Well what a beautiful set, it must be stunning to be there and see the event as it happens, very well taken.

Very nice Bjorn. I'm so jealous. Tried a few times to catch these in Northumberland without luck. I'm so jealous

Stunning Bjørn! Just beautiful.

Makes me want to head straight back to beautiful Norway!

We had hoped to go to Iceland this weekend but life got in the way. One of these years I shall get to photograph them from the land rather than a ship.

Looks like it will be a good winter for them, and at least now you don't have to freeze half to death to get some wonderful shots.

I hope you get another chance to travel to Iceland, or indeed to Norway, and get to photograph the Lights from the mainland! If I am not completely mistaken there is solar maximum next autumn, and therefore the possibly of another four years with high Northern Lights activity, which is good Last night the temperature was about five degrees celsius, so there was not a lot of suffering involved staying out for 4-5 hours in the night. The only disadvantage with capturing the Northern Lights now is the lack of snow, which can really give these kinds of images an edge.
