I find Neat Image does a good job, although I haven't tried the others to make a comparison.

I have tried a few and IMHO - LR3 is better than most and I haven't found anything that works better for me.
You don't say in your post but am assuming you have tried LR3 on these and were not satisfied?
If so can I just check that you are remembering to use the colour slider as well as luminance as this can make quite a difference?

Fritz- no I have not had chance yet- I have a backlog of PP work for my sons school and this is on that list. Not too much PP of noisy images so far with LR so thought it would be worth canvassing opinion to see if there was a good reason to download something dedicated to NR.

If you want to add one of the images that need doing to the thread - happy to run it through LR3 for you and re-post so you can see what it can doFritz- no I have not had chance yet- I have a backlog of PP work for my sons school and this is on that list. I have used LR3 and, as other say, very good and so easy to use.
Lots of mentions for Noise Ninja and Neat Image, both of which can produced very nice results. However, you should also look at Topaz DeNoise. I have not used this personally, but have seen some very good results attributed to Topaz DeNoise.

I use Topaz Denoise and it's excellent. I have read of reasons why to use this over others but I'll be damned if I can remember what they are, just know it works for me !I have used LR3 and, as other say, very good and so easy to use.

Japers45 - just download the trials of all of them and use your LR3 and then compare the results and which you find offers you the best interface/ease of use.

I am wondering whether a stand alone noise reduction app like noise ninja or other would represent a significant upgrade form the NR in Lightroom 3.
My thinking is an app produced purely to reduce noise will do a better job than a "Jack of all trades".
As usual the real world experience of PU will help me a great deal.
Thanks
