Noise on K7

I seem to be getting a lot of noise with my K7 at ISO 400 or above on any exposures more than about 1/2 second, and a fair bit on anything at ISO 200 on longer exposures. Is this inherent in the camera, or am I doing something wrong? Also does anyone have any recommendations for noise reduction? I am using Noise Ninja, but have to use auto-profile as there is no profile for the K7.
Thanks,
Jon.

Shooting JPG or RAW?
Maybe a sample photo might be helpful.

Shooting RAW. Here's a pic (3 pics stitched together) I took last night, 4 secs at ISO 200, f8. This is after applying noise reduction, it was much worse than this. there's also some pixellation about a third of the way in from the left hand side.

Thank you ALiengrove, the smaple looks very clean so it's hard to say something about that do you've a 100% crop without too much PP?
I know that noise can be very visible in "bland" parts of the photo such as skies, because of lack of things going on every little bit of noise is very visible, might this be a problem?
You should slightly over expose your photo but not clip it and then bring the exposure down in PP, that would deal with most of the noise.

Paul I ain't the one to solve this problem because I don't have a K7.
I asked RAW or JPG because with JPG there are settings in the camera that influence noise but since Aliengrove doesn't use JPG I can't help further someone knowing the K7 must take it over.
I know that the K7 can certainly preform and it's handling is one of the best.
I see you've a K10D, that one still delivers the best photos at very low iso that's why I'm a bit reluctant to get a K7 because most of my shots are in the studio at ISO 100 to 200...

i tested at 4 seconds iso 800 1600 and 3200, and get alot of hot pixels,
i think this was a problem with the k20 early on.
also with the lens cap on.

This is a 100 percent crop from an image taken at 800 iso, 1/25 of a sec, no pp. There seems a lot of noise and the longer the exposure, the worse it gets.

And here's a 100 percent crop from the panorama before editin, ISO 4oo, 4 secs, f8. Am i just expecting too much from the camera?

Aliengroove I would say the noise is the same with both of them.
I think your monitor is to blame not being able to produce the slight variations of black, the brighter sky in the second photo is much easier to display for TFT/LCD screens.

I at least don't find it out of the ordinary although the ISO800 exposure does look good for such a high number

This looks to me just as I would expect, do you have the dark frame subtraction turned off?

What is dark frame subtraction? On my monitor the iso 800 shot appears to have much more noise. And thanks very much for taking the time to look at the pics and answer my question!

I guess it must be my monitor then. It's an LCD monitor, does anyone know how I can fix it? It's going to be difficult doing noise reduction and sharpening with it as it is.

Jon.

Do you see it now

It's not fair to do it this way but it shows you there is more there then you think.

This was taken just after 5 AM. Noise not an issue or it is?
