Hi everyone, new boy from Brighton. As the heading says I dont have a camera, well not a pentax but have owned many film pentax cameras, at the moment, dare I say it a canon 350d I bought 6 years ago when they first arrived. So I decided to change to Pentax. From my film days I always liked pentax so now I have decided to upgrade. The ltd lenses have had a big influence on this decision. So hopefuly soon I will be a full pentaxian in the near future. Difficult time to change at the moment as there is a lot of choice k5,k7,km or kr !!! Think k5 to much for me at moment as i want at least 1 ltd lens. Anyway nice to meet you all and join in with the chat.

Welcome

Quality lenses will always be quality lenses but the bodies come and go.

I am not sure what I would do in your shoes - possibly the K-r.

For a minute there I thought someone was talking about the Cameraless photography exhibition at the V&A...

*ahem* ah... welcome!

As you are thinking of a ltd lens (excellent choice!), and want to keep in budget, I'd choose between a K7 or a Kr. If you want low-light, go for the Kr. If that's not a priority, you should be able to get a great deal on a K7 as its now the "older" model (although still a great camera, if you aren't bothered about high ISO). There's one in the Classifieds here, for example.

I think flossie means K-r as the R is under the 4 on the keyboard

The K-m was discontinued a year or so ago - I think you mean the K-x?

Welcome, anyway!

Welcome and good luck choosing the right camera.

For the K7 is weather proof seals, that and a Ltd lens means all weather shooting.

For the Kr is high ISO, that and a Ltd lens means great poor light opportunities.

Or you could just get a used K20 and save up for the next new model!
Cheers, HG

Thanks for all your replies. High ISO shooting not worried about or fast frames per second. I shoot mainly manual and RAW, and I think the k7 is better as it has two control wheels one for aperture the other for the shutter. I have not seen the kr and what I have seen from pics it only has one control wheel, so does this mean I have to press another button while turning the control wheel so I can change either aperture or shutter, I have to do this on my 350d and I find it very annoying and fiddly.
Thanks for your advice, will be asking for more soon but will leave for another day

If you are into RAW and manual, I think you are right to stick to the bodies with two control dials. The K-7 is a superb RAW-shooter's camera and great value now. A secondhand K20D would be a good buy too.

the k20 is the budget-minded option for what you want, and a very capable body.

the extra money you save by going that way will go a good way towards buying more limiteds.

also, strongly consider buying second hand on this forum—it could save you a ton of money. i wish i did this instead of buying new.
