What adapters actually exist for other lenses (I already know about pentax 645 to bayonet, m42 to bayonet and t-mount). Specifically, are there any for nikon, minolta, canon or olympic lenses to pentax bayonet?

Typically adapters exist to enable M42 screw fit lenses to be used on a variety of bayonet cameras.

When manufacturers introduce new lens mounts they aften offer an adapter to allow the old lenses to be used.

Pentax have made Asihiflex to M42, Leica screw to M42, M42 to K bayonet adapters, thus keeping good faith with existing users.

Almost any adapter could be made , at a cost, by firms like SRB, but the problem tends to be keeping infinity focus. Sometimes lens elements are included in adapters to solve this problem.

No, mainly because the relevant register distances don't allow space for an adaptor to be fitted and infinity focus to be retained. Nikon and Contax/Yashica lenses have pretty much the same register distance as the K mount and I've read that Nikon AI mount lenses will fit and work on K-mount cameras (although the lens won't click into place) and also that it's easy to remove the mount from Contax/Yashica lenses and replace those with a mount taken of a K lens.

M42 lenses have the same register distance as K-mount, which is why the only adapters that allow infinity focus are those that fit completely inside the mount.

That's interesting. I have a few Yashica lenses and would very much like to be able to use them on my K10D. Is it possible to buy the necessary Pentax mount and if so, anybody know where from? (sorry for hi-jacking the thread David )

The mount conversion I've read about was done by removing a K-mount from another lens (perhaps a broken one) or from a converter or extension tube.
