Has any one any advice on the best mode on the Kr for night scenes eg Vivid. Natural ext. Also any advice on camera settings for exp, shutter speed and iso settings. Any other tips would be very helpful.

Those are meaningless if you shoot RAW, which you really should in night scenes.

Beside that, the time at which you shoot has more meaning than AV, Tv... or whatever. Shoot in whatever mode you're comfortable with. You should try to shoot your scenes when there is still some residual colours in the sky, like maybe 20 to 45 minutes after sunset, so you don't end up with a totally black sky in your pictures.

One thing that works for me in night scenes is spot metering, but you need to learn where to take the reading.

Practice, practice and some more practice will net you the results you are looking for.

Good luck.

F8, Av mode, iso 100, 2 second timer. AWB usually works for me too, but I also shoot RAW for maximum flexibility in post. If the camera is struggling with correct exposure, I will go into M mode and using the auto settings as a guide. I tend to use centre weighted metering as normal.

...that.. and also if clouds are forming around the sun from approximately 20 mins before it sets completely you will see nice hues forming, makes a wonderful landscape.

Don't forget to look towards East also as stunning colours are formed often and you can get great landscapes and colours of the sky from that end too
