Chris, I noticed this lens "Used Pentax SMC 'M' 50mm F1.7 Lens", would, with an extension, that work as a semi-macro??

It would be a good lens to use with an extension tube! Non 'A' of course so 'Green Button' exposure setting would be in order, but this not a problem...
