Very good night shots, 1st especially which benefits from some tone in the sky. The 18-55 is really shining there I wonder if perhaps you've pushed the sharpening just a bit too much?

Yeah i agree on the sharpening, will do what i usually do go back to them tomorrow with a fresh set of eyes and adjust.

I too think they are great and of particular interest to me as I have a K-r. What I'd like to know is when you bracketed the shots did you press the shutter release button with the camera on a tripod? What I would like to do is use a remote to initiate the pictures but since you cannot set the camera to bracket at the same time as setting it to respond to the remote, and the camera does not have a cable release socket, there really is no alternative.

Just interested to know how you get round it as I would like to limit the movement/shaking of the camera as the pictures are taken.

But great pictures - looks like the last one you are on a boat in the river!

Could be your best excuse to upgrade The normal 'get around' for this problem is the self-timer - I don't know the Kr, so this may still be possible with auto-bracketing activated.

The K7 / K5 series models have extensive drive mode options covering most of the bases - you can set remote control firing with auto-brackets, and you get the same detailed bracket options as shutter button operation. If I was serious about tripod shooting, and auto-bracketing is part of serious tripod shooting I think, then it is a great reason to upgrade, if that is a suitable route for you to take at this time.

There's been discussions before about whether to use auto-bracketing or not, with some advocating the manual method of changing the controls yourself between each shot. I believe the combination of auto bracketing (very fast rapid images close together in time) with remote control and mirror up (the least interference with camera stability possible) is the ultimate workflow.

It is certainly one of the reasons this plan of action is under consideration! However, Malcolm's wonderful pictures prove that he has no issue with this!


Unfortunately not Nigel. The K-r has 5 mutually exclusive drive modes: Single frame, continuous shooting, self timer, remote control and bracketing. You can only pick one

To answer your question Andy i am new to this tripod stuff and also new to the KR after very recently switching from my trusty istds. i found to achieve the best results i shot 3 frames in full manual at 10 secs 20 secs and 30 sec exposures for these particular shots also just using the 2 second timer and standing back I found when shooting long exposures you can easily get a bit lost with the auto bracketing, so just tried to keep it simple.
